Gnomes

Gnomes are a species of people distantly related to Smithkin, they are descended from a colony of Proto-Smithkin that settled in the Northern mountains of Onaria, they are small and stout, adapting to live primarily in caves, rarely setting foot outside except for the most extreme of circumstances.  


They are masters of all things mining and manufacturing, creating weapons, armor and tools of great quality and cleverness.  They are also masters of Jewelry and fine metal working.  The Gnomes were mostly isolationist throughout history, creating a vast subterranean civilization, distrusting the Fae, their main ally was the Northern Elven Kingdom which was destroyed utterly by the Fairy King in the Great Wars, during the war, the Fairy King launched an attack on the Gnome civilization but ultimately failed to overcome the expertise of the Gnome tunnel fighters, lead by the Gnome Commander and war hero Kilwyn.

The Gnomes remained in isolation after the war until the Phyrian war, during which time the Southern Elves sent ambassadors to ask for aid.  A massive army of heavily armed and Armored Gnomes came to the aid of the Elves in battle against the Phyrians and turned the tide of battle.  Ultimately the Gnomes joined the Alliance of Humans, Elves, Dracilians and Smithkin. 

During the Gorbol Migration, Kobolds invaded the North Eastern mountains and threatened the Gnome civilization.  Fighting a series of wars against the Kobolds, an uneasty standstill was reached with the Kobolds occupying the land of Gwythender and the Gnomes centered in the land of Morbalhorb.
